Our Mission

The mission of the College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences is to benefit people and communities through the knowledge we generate, the information we disseminate, and the students we educate by creating a collaborative environment across departments.

Vision

The College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences will be globally recognized for collaborative research and engaged teaching that enhance our understanding of the human condition, promote individual, family, and community health and well-being, and provide a foundation for innovative policy and practice.

Goals

The College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences uses goals to guide our activities. These goals are linked to ClemsonForward, the University’s strategic plan.

Goal 1: Promote discovery that advances knowledge, informs policy, and shapes practice

Goal 2: Improve lives in communities through outreach and service

Goal 3: Deliver high-quality programs that prepare tomorrow’s workforce and global citizens

Goal 4: Foster inclusive learning and diverse work environments where people can thrive

Building People and Communities

The College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences joins together a unique combination of schools and departments: communication; nursing; parks, recreation and tourism management; political science; psychology; public health sciences; and sociology, anthropology and criminal justice.

While these areas have distinctive characteristics and missions, they all have a common thread of service to people and communities. We are focused on becoming a national and international leader in this effort–equipping students and engaging research and outreach to address health and wellness challenges, tackle human impacts on the environment, and build stronger communities by better understanding human, political and social behavior and the impact of an ever-connected world.

To honor this common thread, the college has adopted the tagline, “Building People and Communities.” This phrase not only describes our collective mission but our also efforts that contribute to Clemson’s land-grant mission, strategic vision, and global impact – and make a tangible difference in the lives of people and communities every day.
