The new foundation-based Tampere University is a merger of the former Tampere University of Technology and the University of Tampere. University of Tampere was first established in 1925 and Tampere University of Technology in 1965. Thus, Tampere University has many decades’ experience in educating university students.

Tampere University offers a wide range of Master’s Degree programmes conducted entirely in English.

We educate the shapers of the future – individuals who understand people, identify technological opportunities and are accustomed to the culture of cooperation already upon graduation.

Students can plan their studies flexibly and complete them within the target time. They have access to up-to-date information on the progress of their studies and the level of their skills. Doctoral training and research careers provide the basis for academic excellence.

Research at Tampere University focuses especially on topics related to technology, health and society. Numerous research groups and networks operate in our community conducting multidisciplinary and diverse studies across organisational boundaries.

The research undertaken at our Centres of Excellences (CoE) ranges from game culture studies to tumour genetics.

Our missions in research, development and innovation are to maintain a just and participatory society, to promote health and well-being for all sections of the population, to build efficient and safe environments, and to ensure that social responsibility is respected also in the turmoil caused by digitalisation and the transformation of work.

Tampere is known for its active student life. Students are involved in many cultural events, they organise events and in general keep the wheels moving. There are close to 40,000 students in Tampere and they definitely make their presence felt! Tampere is an excellent city for studying and almost every fifth person living in Tampere is a student. According to several national surveys, Tampere is the most popular city to live and study in Finland.
