Introduction

The National Pedagogical University is a public institution of higher education, created by presidential decree on August 29, 1978. Its purpose is to train undergraduate and graduate education professionals to meet the needs of the National Educational System and Mexican society in general.

It also offers other higher education services such as diplomas and teacher update courses, conducts research in educational matters, and disseminates the pedagogical culture, science, and the various artistic and cultural expressions of the country.

In 1992, by instructions of the National Agreement for the Modernization of Basic Education, published on May 19 of that year in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), UPN Units outside of Mexico City became dependent financially and administratively from the governments of the respective states.

However, the academic autonomy that allows the Rectory and the Academic Council, governing bodies established in the Ajusco Unit, to govern the supply, updating, innovation, creation, and design of academic, research, and dissemination programs, continues to unify the study plans and programs of the UPN Units throughout the country and makes possible the academic relationship with the three State Pedagogical Universities in Chihuahua, Durango, and Sinaloa.

The UPN is the most important public institution in Mexico in the training of specialized cadres in the educational field. The UPN academic plant throughout the country generates knowledge, strategies, and pedagogical models to understand and transform education. The motto that distinguishes our Institution is: EDUCATE TO TRANSFORM.
