English master

The School of Arts offers English-language master programmes in the visual arts, audiovisual arts and music. Each year, dozens of foreign students choose the master programmes of our faculty to continue their studies. The presence of students from different international backgrounds is an enrichment for our educational tradition and provides an added value to the training of foreign master students and Flemish students moving on from the Dutch-language bachelor programmes alike.

The programmes are organized so as to facilitate encounters between Dutch-speaking and English-speaking students in informal contexts, in seminars and courses, and even in artistic projects, they start up together. There are no differences in curricula, competencies, learning outcomes or organization between the English-language programmes and their Dutch-language counterparts. English-speaking candidates holding a master’s degree in music can also go in for the advanced master ‘soloist contemporary music’.... [-]

About

The MA in Communication Programme at the School of Communication, Hong Kong Baptist University was launched in 1996. Since its inception, the Programme had been partially supported by Hong Kong government educational subsidies up until September 2004 when it became fully self-financed. The change in the source of funding was accompanied by an opening of the Programme, for the first time, to Mainland and other overseas students and the addition of the full-time study mode. In September 2004, a total of 92 students were admitted to the Programme, approximately two thirds local Hong Kong students and one-third mainlanders. The students divide more or less equally into part-time study mode (Hong Kong students only) and full-time study mode (both from Hong Kong and outside).... [-]

Train in all departments, in a working studio, with students from over 30 countries. Entry in January, May and September. ... [+]

An intensive two-year course in the heart of London, the MA Filmmaking trains to a professional level in a full range of filmmaking skills. Students leave with a portfolio of directing, cinematography, editing, producing and sound credits on at least 10 films - usually many more. The school produces around 180 films each year on this particular programme and last year these screened at over 180 festivals, winning many prizes, including the Cannes Palme d’Or for Best Short Film, the most prestigious festival accolade.

Learning is based on short film production. Each term these film exercises become more technically sophisticated, more considered and more complex in their ambitions. The school specifies the skill base for each exercise, providing the equipment and training students to new levels in each of the various craft skills. Students make all aesthetic decisions while solving problems similar to those faced by professional units, on a steeply increasing slope of difficulty. The work is constantly assessed and critiqued.... [-]
